Itinerary description
Mayfield Water Garden is the permanently open part of the Mayfield property. It has a cafe (good food and coffee). toilets, and a plant nursery (mainly deciduous plants) as well as the water garden.
On a few days per year the entire gardens around the house are open and this is well worth a visit. The Water Garden is planned to be part of a larger, permanently open, garden. This is very much a work in progress.
The only way to get here is to drive - although perhaps intrepid bicyclers could get here, not that I would recommend cycling on country roads. It is just as well that the cafe is there, because it is the only place you can purchase anything.
Tickets to get into the Water Garden are $10 for adults and $5 for children. On days when the entire garden is open the charge is higher.
The best times are probably spring and autumn, although this visit in the middle of June was still interesting.
This is a project on a vast scale. The adaptation of the English style water garden to the Australian landscape.
