Itinerary description
Mara Island (or Marado) is the southernmost island of Korea. Ferry boats leave from Sanisudong Port on Jeju about every hour, but departures are frequently cancelled on short notice due to weather or lack of passengers.
On Marado it is an easy 45-60 minute stroll around the island. Highlights are breathtaking views from high above of big waves thundering onto the black lavastone shore. On the southern tip you also find the stone marking the southernmost point in Korea. On the east-side you pass the stunning lighthouse with miniature lighthouse models from around the world in front.
It is recommeded to walk along the outer fence as sticking to the paved road means you miss many of the dizzying vistas. There can be a lot of people but on the upside this means that there are many facilities including eateries (mostly seafood), a convenience store and toilets.
