Itinerary description
This is a 55 acre amusement island in the Nile about 9 km south of central Cairo. It is green, away from traffic and seems to offer paths and unspoilt green areas for walking. Not so. The area has 12 restaurants and cafés, an amusement park, a water park, horse riding, bike rentals etc. So the promising areas have turned into just another part of the noisy Cairo metropolis. But what is worse is that the entire northern green half of the island cannot be accessed. In fact 5 times (five!) uniformed guys turned us back from a pathway or area of the park for no apparent reason. A good guess will be that this is because the park is run by the army and whenever a high ranking officer wants to use a part of the park everyone else is turned away. But who knows. Entry is 45 LE and the park is definetely not recommended for a walk.
