Itinerary description

While staying in the Glenview Hotel, Wicklow for a hiking weekend, we went to visit the village of Delgany and from there to walk in the Kindlestown Wood. The forest is small but a lovely place to walk, and suitable for all ages (including a part suitable for people with reduced mobility and for wheelchairs). The roads and paths cover some 3.5km criss-crossing the park, so the hikers can walk as much or as little as they wish. There is ample car-parking. There are many varieties of pine and broad-leaf trees, and the woods are inhabited by a variety of birds and bats, and some say there are squirrel, fox and badger, and even deer (however, we didn't see any fauna). There are predominately two types of rock - shale and granite. A lovely walk, and only a short distance from Dublin. It can be combined with a walk in the nearby Glen of the Downs. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
