Itinerary description
At Indian Island Naval Magazine, the U.S. Navy stores ordnance in concrete igloos scattered through the forest. Most of the 2700-acre island is forested. The facility is off-limits to the public except for one day each year, when the Navy opens a small part of the island to the public for a "fun run." So we jumped at the chance to enter the forbidden zone. We didn't run, we just walked the pretty, quiet fire lanes that wend through the forest.
