One of these corners is the Vintgar Gorge, (Blejski Vintgar in Slovenian), a spectacular gorge that the Radovna River has gradually shaped with its precious emerald-colored flow.

The gorge, which separates the Boršt and Hom mountains, is overflowing with lush vegetation, moss-covered rocks and vertical walls that in some sections reach up to 100 meters in height, creating a feeling of majesty that overwhelms and amazes any visitor.

It must be said that the gorge is part of the Triglav National Park, a natural reserve in which the most spectacular natural corners of the country are located, including the highest mountain: Triglav itself.

The Vintgar Gorge is located 5 kilometers from Bled, the best known and most touristic town in the country. The journey is just 10 minutes in the direction of the town of Podhom. Once there, follow the directions marked on the wooden signs.

In total, we have a 1.6 km route that will take us from one point to the other. In short, a very simple journey that requires little effort, being perfect to go with the whole family.

Some sections are basically a path along the river, but in many others, especially in the narrower parts, the path turns into wooden walkways literally hanging from the rock.

There are even four wooden bridges that take us from one side to the other while the river flows under our feet.

Throughout the entire route, the Radovna River will always be present with its special color and a very strong flow that creates beautiful rapids and spectacular waterfalls. But not the whole course is like this, there are parts in which the water flows very slowly, creating even some natural pools.

In addition, the small mist that forms around the river is very curious, especially in the early hours of the morning, giving it a ghostly air.

Finally, at the end of the route we are greeted by a final surprise: the Šum waterfall (noisy waterfall), a 13-meter waterfall that is a must-see photo point.

A tip: to go down to the foot of the waterfall there are two options. One is crossing the bridge to take a somewhat complicated and slippery path due to the mud. The other is to continue along the path leaving the bridge behind, a path that will take you to another much smaller bridge that will allow you to reach the waterfall on foot.

In theory, it takes about an hour and a half to go through it, but we already anticipate that it will take much longer, simply because it is impossible not to stop every two by three.

The Vintgar Gorge was discovered accidentally in 1891 by the mayor of the area Jakob Zumer, and the cartographer and photographer Benedikt Lergetporer, from this moment they decided that this wonderful place should be shown to the world, so they began to prepare it so that it could run between the walls of the gorge.

At the beginning of the gorge from Podham we will see that the waters are rougher, due to the amount of rocks and wells that exist, as we advance we will see that the river calms down, ending with a spectacular end, the great waterfall.

For the more active you can continue the tour, but this time outside the gorges, this alternative path takes us to Vintgar, through Mount Hom, passing through Santa Katarina, the panoramic views are impressive, as we walk we notice that there are small ascents , until we reached the hermitage. This long tour lasts about 3 hours at most, making stops to rest and take pictures, it is about 5 km in total from the beginning.
