This is a walk that we begin in the vicinity of Madrid's Atocha station.
In its surroundings, look to the right and you will discover the artistic façade of the Ministry of Agriculture building and the impressive sculpture that crowns it.
Next we climb La Cuesta de Moyano where the walker can entertain themselves browsing the stalls with old books and various craft objects.
And soon we entered the Buen Retiro Park. And we do it through the so-called Gate of the Fallen Angel, which effectively takes us to the place where the Statue of the Fallen Angel stands, dedicated to him. As a curious fact, they say that it is located 666 m above sea level. Is it just a mere coincidence?
Be sure to visit La Rosaleda, a garden, which, as its name indicates, is dedicated to various varieties of roses forming labyrinths dotted with refreshing fountains.
And, in the middle of a small lake, with an elegant fountain thrown towards the sky, stands before us the wonderful metal and glass structure built in 1887 on the occasion of the Philippine Islands Exposition, held that same year.
Considered one of the best examples of the so-called iron architecture in Madrid, it was initially planned as a gigantic greenhouse for tropical plants, and today it is an exhibition hall with samples from the Reina Sofía Museum.
And what you cannot miss is the view of the Estanque Grande del Retiro, an artificial lake, which they say was ordered to be built by order of Felipe IV to recreate naval battles, in which he himself participated.
The truth is that it is a pleasure to find yourself in this true open-air museum where the imposing setting of the sculptural group dedicated to Alfonso XII stands out. The equestrian statue of General Martínez Campos is magnificent.
On the lake, Madrid residents and visitors enjoy practicing the art of rowing. Or simply letting yourself be carried away in the little boats, some lots, ready for it.
Mermaids and lions remain attentive to everything that happens there. Imposing its majestic figures on the lake and giving security and confidence to the walker.
We leave The Park behind and the path we choose takes us in front of a wonder left to us by the Best Mayor of Madrid, Carlos III and that without a doubt is one of the most representative monuments of Madrid. When we saw it we couldn't help but remember and hum the famous song: Look at it, look at it, La Puerta de Alcalá!
And what can we say about La Fuente de La Cibeles? Its beauty and harmony have made it a symbol of the capital, and with good reason!
And we find the god of waters, Neptune, wielding his trident as he rides on a chariot drawn by two fish-tailed horses, at his clear fountain, The Fountain of Neptune.
If you go with time, delve into the pictorial immensity that our great art gallery keeps within its walls: The Prado Museum.
And, like us, don't forget to say hello to the brilliant Velázquez, standing guard in front of the main door, perhaps afraid that his precious Meninas might escape.
All in all, a beautiful walk. To live it and not be told about it!
Note that it is also very easy to walk, suitable for going with the whole family. Three hours very well spent in which you can take a good walk and also have a quiet drink looking at the lake...
