Camino de la Fuente del Avellano – Albaicin Bajo
This walk starts in Plaza Nueva passing a lot of historical buildings parallel to the river Darro.
Opposite the Puente de los Tableros is El Banuelo, the Arab baths (entrance 7 euros). Then you pass the Zafra house and convent. Next is the Archaeological museum casa del Castril, then passing the church of San Pedro y San Pablo, and making your way to the convent of San Bernado.
By the Fuente del Paseo there is a nice street market just before turning right onto the bridge Puente Ajibillo, where you pick up on your left the Camino del Avellano. You will pass two small fountains and a cave house (occupied) and large stone slabs with poems on them (in Spanish).
Carrying on you finally arrive at the Avellano fountain.
The path is nice and shaded, and across the river you can see Sacromonte, with its cave dwellings, and also the Abadia church which is being restored at the moment.
Making your way back you enter the Palace de los Córdoba (free entrance). From here you make your way down calle San Juan de los Reyes and up to the Mirador de Carvajales. Then go down Cuesta San Gregorio, then calle Calderea Vieja, passing Hospital de Corpus Christi before turning back into Plaza Nueva.
A great walk with lots to see and lots of nooks and crannies.
