Itinerary description
This fun bear trail starts and finishes at stations on the same railway line. The Chislehurst Society funded the bears, apart from those in Chislehurst Rec. All bears were carved by master craftsman Will Lee and each has its own QR code for more information. The route can be found on the Chislehurst Society’s website.
Starting at Elmstead Woods railway station with its surprising and wonderful platform gardens, spot the first 3 bears. Every station should be like this!
Then through Walden and Chislehurst Rec, discovering more bears, plus the original Boating Bears carved in 2013. A bonus scout bear is opposite the playground bears.
Into Chislehurst village for more and then onward to Belmont Open Space, which has not only the bears, but a host of story characters up in the trees.
Through Kemnal and into Scadbury Park to find yet more bears.
Another bonus bear can be found be found at the entrance to Camden Place where Napoleon III and Empress Eugenia lived in exile.
Finally the last two bears are in Chislehurst station’s ticket hall to catch train back.
There are many pubs and coffee shops along the route, especially in Chislehurst village.
Some areas are muddy, but no stiles.
