Itinerary description
Maguana beach is the best beach in the Baracoa area and is generally reached by tourists from Baracoa making a deal with a local taxi driver, to take them there and wait for a few hours then taken them back (one way is about 20 minutes). A day trip on a mountain bike is an alternative way to get there.
The quality of the sand is good (medium to fine). The beach is clean and protected by a barrier reef. The bottom drops away quickly ass you wade out. This location is good for snorkeling. Kids will need supervision.
There are various vendors selling knick-knacks who can become aggressive when the police are not around. You can obtain a lunch in one of the local casas, but beware of price gouging and padded bills. The nearby Gaviota Maguana lodge hotel (another idea) is overpriced.
