Itinerary description

Paddington Station is a London Underground station, as well as a British Rail (BR) hub that serves locations to the west such as Bath, Oxford, and on to South Wales. The BR Station is famous for its period architecture. There is also an Express train link to Heathrow Airport from Paddington Station.

This trail highlights the nearby canal system with longboat activity and floating restaurants and coffee places, immediately north of the Station.

The track made on January 6, 2018, with a couple of hours to wait at Paddington before train time. It can easily be done in less than an hour.

Paddington Station is a London Underground station, as well as a British Rail (BR) hub that serves locations to the west such as Bath, Oxford, and on to South Wales. The Main BR Station if known for its famous designer and period architecture, and the "Paddington Bear" mascot. There is also an Express train link to Heathrow Airport from Paddington Station. Several different Paddington bear statues and art works can be found in and around the station. There is a Coffee shop on second level at back entrance to the Hilton, and there is a grocery stores and restaurant adjoining the station lobby.

Street scenes

Old buildings along a cobblestone lane between the Station and canal. The old St. Mary's Hospital is located near here.

Paddington Basin

Walk along the banks of the canal. Lots of live aboard long boats. There is a floating bar and restaurant in this area. One of the Paddington Bears is under a road overpass here.

Sheldon square

This coffee location may be preferable to the places in the Station, because it's quieter, less crowded, and has close views of the canal activity. There is another local-managed coffee outlet in a longboat on the canal, not too far to the west.
