Itinerary description

You will come across with archaeological ruins, churches and chapels, public buildings worth visiting, the fortress, some beautiful traditional and neoclassical mansions, some Ottoman era faucets and of course, benches to have a rest, places for a drink and a snack.

Archaeological ruins, graves.

Part of an ancient road.

Aghìa Paraskevì chapel.

Lefkòniko square.

Part of ancient particular masonry of Lesvos.

Àghios Nikòlaos church.

Ruins of an old stone mill.

Part of ancient Mìthimna.

Nice view towards the village and that fortress. There are benches overlooking the sea.

Bathing establishment.

Be careful, site’s entrance is dangerous.

Aghìa Marìna chapel. Old post office.

On your way to the main cobblestone street and the next waypoint, on your left, you can see the old abandoned post office building next to a double ottoman faucet.

Conference Hall. Used to be an Ottoman mosque.

Public historical library.

Since 1859, it has been operating as a lending library, a reading room and includes a great number of old significant editions and books.

The Ottoman baths of Mìthimna.

A must visit. It has been renovated and is open as a museum. Great atmosphere and perfect acoustic. Occasionally hosts exhibitions and musical events. Free entrance.

Mithimna's fortress.

The 2nd largest fortress on Lesvos. Built in the 14th century, on top of ancient Greek & Byzantine Acropolis by the Gatelouz rulers of the island. Repairs and additions were made later by the Ottomans.
