Itinerary description
We went to Meiji jingu and yoyogi park.
In front of Harajuku bridge there was a large stage with displays of dance for the summer festival. It was particularly crowded and we couldn't stay. Groups of about 50 people with bright uniforms were dancing on the stage turn by turn with very loud music.
First we went to Meiji jingu, I wanted to find the lawn spot at the North and settle there for picnic. There is much less people going there than Yoyogi park so it's relatively quiet. However it's not a park but part of the shrine so it's not allowed to take off one's clothes. Louis managed to evade our guard when we changed his diapers so he ended up running naked on the grass.
After lunch we moved to Yoyogi park, Louis was running everywhere and in the end we were more tired than him.

Beware of Dengue fever. Some people who are around Yoyogi park are affected by the plague. Should you have suspected of being contagious don't hesitate to contact relevant authorities.
Thanks for the tip. I've also heard about it on TV the day after. Fortunately we haven't been in contact with infectious mosquitoes.
Yoyogi Park and adjoining Meiji Shrine is really huge green space and it could be hard to visit both in one day because there are a lot of alluring places (particularly Harajuku, Omote-sando) nearby. Your trail misses inner garden (Nai-en), a great Japanese garden (third largest, after Hamarikyu and Rikugien). North part of the Meiji Shrine is rarely visited. The area is more like a huge park. Seiroku Honda, the creator of Hibiya Park was also involved with the design of the Meiji Jingu gardens. After visiting Meiji Jingu, Yoyogi Park could be really hot during summer. When I went both Meiji Jingu and Yoyogi Park during August, I felt such temperature difference. The combination of Meiji Jingu and Yoyogi Park is Tokyo city walkers' must-visit trail.
