Easy walk from Ninilchik View Campground to the beach at Cook Inlet, where you can see lots of golden and bald eagles fishing in the sea.
The campsite is located on a promontory with good views of Cook Inlet and the town of Ninilchik, on the other side of the Ninilchik River. From the campsite, following the signs for the Ninilchik Beach Trail, we go down to the beach via some stairs and continue along a track between the river and the sea, until we reach the mouth of the river. During salmon season, the river will be full of fishermen, especially in the port area.
At the mouth, we walked along the beach, watching dozens of golden and bald eagles fishing and stealing the catch, in spectacular aerial battles. Both this beach and the nearby Deep Creek are good spots to observe the eagles in peace.
