Itinerary description
Via Ferrata - Right across the valley from the "Sacra di San Michele" abbey - and its relevant Via Ferrata, Caprie is just a few kilometers from Torino and one of the closest climbing sites to the city. There are several climbing routes of medium-high difficulty in three sectors: Anticaprie, Rocca Nera and Rocca Bianca. The latter also hosts the homonym via ferrata which is the content of this track. I repeated it as of March 2017 and verified that steel cables and steps are in good conditions.
Notes for this via ferrata:
- Avoid summer months for the route is facing south and it could prove too hot
- Rock is serpentine/gneiss with excellent grip
- Medium difficulty with a few athletic passages
- About 300 m (900 ft.) elevation change
- Tibetan bridge (three steel cables) about 15 m (50 ft) long
- About two hours from parking lot to the top. Return via trail in about 30 minutes
IMPORTANT NOTE: never venture on a via ferrata without specific gear and equipment.
