Itinerary description
Pietrele Negre (Black Stones) via ferrata is short and easy for most parts, but the end of the ferrata is more exposed and rises the difficulty in my opinion to easy-moderate.
Start of the DN75 main road. You will see a trail sign with red cross as a main indicator. You will need to enter this route. After going for 100 or 200 m you will see a Via Ferrata sign and you will need to turn right on a not so obvious trail. This will climb to the wall and the via ferrata will be visible. Time to via ferrata start aprox 10-15 min. If it takes more you probably missed the trail.
The ferrata starts by an easy traverse and continues in some vertical easy steps. The first half is pretty straight forward. The second half is where the ferrata will split into 2. To the left for 125m and exits or to the right for an exit at 20m. The route presented here is on the left one. This route leads to a 125m traverse of the Pietrele Negre wall. This is the most interesting as it is exposed and has a very beautiful view. Also, the difficulty is grater then the first half. The ferrata will take aprox. 1:00h
Once at the top, the retreat will be on the Red Cross indication. You will need to follow this indicator going left as you come up. Note: the indication also goes right but it will NOT reach the start point.
Going on the left indication will go along the ridge and be careful as the path is not well marked and you can lose it. In the GPX you will have some intermediary points as I got lost and had a hard time finding the correct route.
The retreat will take about 1:00h.
Total estimated time: 2:15h.
