Fourth stage of the journey carried out in the Julian Alps in Slovenia, in the Triglav National Park.
The journey runs along the main ridge of the national park, from west to east, starting the route at the border between Slovenia, Italy and Austria, ending at the beautiful Lake Bohinj, located in a highly visited glacial valley, ideal for water activities. and, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful in Slovenia.
The complete journey lasted 5 days to cover 80 km and achieve a positive accumulated elevation gain of approximately 6,600 meters. On the journey we will have the possibility of ascending to the peaks of Mala Mojstrovka (via ferrata), Prisank (via ferrata), Bovski Gamsovec (normal route), Triglav (via ferrata), and Kanjavec (normal route).
Although I point out that this is the fourth stage, we actually made the ascent to the top of Triglav on the afternoon of the third day of the journey. By getting up a little early and taking advantage of the fact that the third stage is short and along good trails, you can arrive relatively early (noon) at the Dolic refuge, where we can rest for a while and undertake the climb to Triglav.
In fact, this option of starting to climb Triglav in the afternoon is a good alternative to avoid the crowds that occur in the morning and at noon.
We reached the top around 4 in the afternoon and it was relatively calm. In fact, on the descent along the normal route towards Mali Triglav we barely came across large groups.

To have a first contact and get some information about the Julian Alps and the Triglav National Park, you can visit the following websites:

As we have mentioned previously, Lake Bohinj is located within the Triglav National Park, the largest in Slovenia, and a must-see.
Very interesting information about that lake can be found at the following link:

The reservation of the huts can be made directly and by linking reservations from the Slovenian Mountain Federation website:

To get closer to the beginning of the journey you can fly to the Ljubljana airport, where by bus or taxi, we can go to the bus station, and from there take the bus currently managed by the company Arriva that will take us on a Approximate 2-hour trip to the town of Ratece, very close to the border with Italy.
INFORMATION ABOUT STAGE NUMBER 4
Beautiful circular, where two sections of via ferrata stand out: the first one we will face will be Kugyjeva, with little traffic; and the second, the normal route that links the Triglav with the Mali Triglav range and the Kedrerici refuge.
These are not excessively difficult via ferratas (the one in Kugyjeva is probably a little more complicated, but since it is not so crowded, it is advanced safely, and alternates with many sections of trail).
In a rapid ascent along this route we will reach the summit of Triglav, the highest point of the journey and the highest altitude in Slovenia.
Well-deserved rest, and the ridge begins towards the top of Mali Triglav (easy ridge, very safe, and with excellent panoramic views). Tailpiece to enjoy.
As soon as we descend from Mali Triglav we must pay attention to a detour on the right, and take the path (with equipped steps) that descends to the Triglav refuge.
From this “only” refuge we have a long journey (mostly downhill, but with some brief slopes) to the Dolicu refuge, skirting the peaks of Smajetna Glava and Rjavec.
Having started the journey just after noon, we arrived at this Dolicu refuge well in advance of dinner time (around seven o'clock).
