Itinerary description
Park at fonte di Gajum. Follow the Sentiero Geologico, a nice hike in the forest that follows the river. You'll reach Terz'alpe, where you can eat or drink something. Beware, it could be crowded since the restaurant is easily accessible by families.
Head over the Rifugio, and after few meters follow for "Via Ferrata". A steep route will bring you to a first fork, keep the right ("Deviazione sign") and few meters above turn right. You'll see the start of the Ferrata where you can prepare yourself.
The ferrata starts with a fun rock to climb, but later starts an horizontal passage to the right where you'll be constantly holding the chain. The heights here are important, and there are few difficult passages. Do not attempt this if you don't have the required experience.
After the horizontal passages, the Ferrata starts climbing again, and also here there are quite few difficult passages. You'll eventually reach a stair, after that you'll have another 15 minutes till the end of the Ferrata.
Generally speaking, the Ferrata has not well positioned chains and foot steps where it's impossibile to proceed without. Even if you'll try, you will find yourself constantly holding the chain. Also the passages between section of the chain are not weel positioned and you may struggle a bit.
At the end, you are almost to the top of Corno Occidentale. Turn right and you'll reach it, beware the route is not easy and there is no chain here!
You can start the descent going on, slightly turning left to climb down a rock canal. Then, turn right and briefly go up until the Passo is reached. From here, follow the route keeping the right and you'll eventually reach the Terz'alpe again, where you can stop for a beer. Beware: if it's crowded, expect at least 30 minutes of queue before ordering.
When you're done, you can reach you car by either going down the same Sentiero Geologico you took at the start, or follow the "Sentiero degli spiriti". Also here, beware that it's usually crowded with families and children.
At the end, you'll reach the car at Fonte di Gajum.
