Itinerary description
A short drive from the beautiful town of Coromandel (of Yongy Bongy Bo fame), is the Driving Creek Railway.
More than a simple miniature railway, this attraction combines pottery, history, ecology with the story of a very interesting man from Auckland, Barry Brickell.
Great commentary from the well informed drivers and a great setting make this a must see railway. The method by which height is gained includes all wheel drive all wheel breaking stock, switchbacks and a double deck bridge spiral.
15 inch gauge 2.6 km long and up to 1 in 15 gradient. Constructed between 1973 and still developing now.
By March 2019 they will be adding zip wires as an alternative way down.
