Itinerary description
7th edition of half marathon race in my home town of Lodz with great route through the Lagiewniki forest. It was one of the races I wanted to do for quite a while and finally got a chance to travel to Poland in late October.
The race can be split into 3 main sections:
- first 7k that are very fast, mostly flat or even descending, on wider paths or even roads
- second ~8.5k that are the most demanding, with most of the difficult climbs and rapid descents, mostly on narrow paths in dense forest
- last ~5.5k that are still on narrow paths but mostly descending towards the finish line
My plan was to run fairly fast 7k, but saving some legs for the second section. Then again running at ~90% the climbs and downhills for next 8.5k and giving it all for the last 5.5k to the finish line. And my plan went great! I was about 1min under my scheduled time at 7th k mark. Then, still keeping my HR in low 160s, I managed to actually run the second section 3min faster then expected! And had perfectly fresh legs for nice and strong finish on last 5.5k. Overall I did it in 1:28'45" (~4' faster than my planned 1:33'), that gave me 25th position overall and 13th in my age group (M30-39) :-D Cool :-D
