Itinerary description
04/05/2024
GPS data: 58.5 km, 692m+
4h 55min 45 sec
Solo unsupported
Route found on the FKT web where there is a detailed description.
It's mostly on 4x4 track or single track roads. It is fast and considerably flat apart from some short and easy climbs. I divided the route in 4 sections:
1 - Start to Croick Church gate - 16.8 km
2 - Croick Church gate to end of first 'big' climb - 9.7 km
3 - End of first 'big' climb to end of last 'big' climb - 15.5 km
4 - End of last 'big' climb to finish - 15.6 km
The day was warm with almost no wind which made me stop twice in the third section to refill my water and pour water down my head, at 32.5 km from a trickling stream and 39.7 km from Loch an Daimh. In total, I drank about 3.5 litres of water mixed with 5 Tailwind sachets and 1 SIS electrolyte tablet, also 3 SIS gels (one of them with caffeine).
I felt good most of the time, apart from most of the third section and a bit before the end running along Loch Achall. Very pleased with the outcome as under 5h was my best case scenario goal. I also managed to get the FKT for this route.
