Itinerary description
Very, but very nice trail in Redes National Park. A lot of fields and forest at lower altitudes, changing to more rocky areas as we climb up.
DESCRIPTION
The trail begins in a free parking with 5-6 spots. The parking is already middle-high altitude, and can be a little scary driving there if you are not just to narrow roads.
From the parking everything goes up. The first 1-2km we use a road made for Jeeps until a very nice “majada” (fields).
Once there we take a trail which we use to climb up to Ojo de Buy, this trail is tricky in its last part. The hole in the rock, (the literal translation is Ox/Steer’s eye), it is very spectacular, nature is amazing!
Next to Ojo the Buey, there is a little cave, nothing special, but the pictures are very nice when taken from the inside (see one of the uploaded pics).
Once there we can decide if coming back through the same trail or doing the circular way. We decide to keep going up to Peña Mea. Using the same tricky trail until submitting.
Peña Mea (1560m) has very beautiful views in every direction. In the North the Atlantic Ocean, Pico Fario. South Ubiñas park. East Picos de Europa, Peña Mayor, Pienzu. In the West Sierra del Aramo.
Going down was easier than the trail up, but still hard. The last 1-2km are through the Jeep road. It is time to run the last 20min.
