Important announcement:
I do the part of Forest 52 Rd and 56Rd by bike ... it can be done by Jeep too.
From Potato Canyon the start is indicated and already ... the best recommendation I can give ... follow the course of the river / torrent and do not get out of there.
The best part of this route is to follow the turn, it is almost perfect! ... I made a couple of mistakes on the way!
Description:
We take dirt road 107 and park on the detour to Forest 52 rd. Here we park to go by bike to Potato Canyon. N. 38 There we hide the bike and follow the course of the river, or the riverbed, because at the beginning there is no drop of water.
Following the river is very easy, but expensive as it is engraved or loose stone, so when running you get off your feet. There are times when you can distinguish a path, but it immediately disappears, so it is always safe to follow the course of the river. Then the incredible happens, water appears in the river. But after a while it disappears, and after a while it appears. It stops at the Guadiana river in Spain, disappears and then appears.
Then the river reaches its stellar moment, the waterfall, very beautiful and unexpected, and now in spring, this phenomenal water.
This is the most difficult part to pass, because it is the narrowest, the stone is wet and you have to pass carefully. After passing the waterfall, the river widens and follows easily. Later the river turns to the right and shoots for the mountains (I, on the way out, make the mistake of leaving the river). The river is wide when it rises towards the mountains and be careful, this is important, when it begins to narrow and forks. here is the crucial moment, because here there is a path, which is essential, to walk through the burned forest. In 2016 there was a great fire that has made the road not easy to see at the beginning.
If you manage to take the path, the ascent is relatively easy, because you follow the path and you're done. The problem is that it is up and going up to a height of 3000 meters it shows.
The end of Potato Canyon is on a forest track, also with a sign indicating it. To get to Mount Withington, turn right and climb the forest track. Soon we will find a sign indicating our destination.
Mont Withington has a car park, with picnic tables and a service to relieve yourself. From here, the views of Las Magdalenas Moutains are 10.
The return, more or less, we do it by the same path.
Enjoy
