Agia roumeli - stalos (Coast To Summit To Coast ultra run)

Another ultra coast to coast run (south to north) via lefka ori mountain range.

This time i started at 6.00 in the morning and passed samaria gorge. (Its pohibited to enter early)
Its magical to be at portes early in the morning without the masses.
Every 2-3 km you can find water sources.

In less than 3 hours i was at ksyloskalo, omalos. I took some liquids (water and juice) and i started for the next "target" melindau summit at 2120m. I stoped at kallergi shelter where i drunk again liquids (water, cola) eat some nuts and bars that i had with me and i took as much water as possible because the next water source was far away..

Until melindau there is a dirty road and footpath. Btw at the dirty road is th first time that you can see the north coast. After the summit melindau i went to kaloros so i descent the north face of melindau. Very difficult descent there is no path and it is very steep. It was my third descent. You can go fast due to the risk of fall and injury.. after the descent i was at a ruined sheperd house calle petrokourta. From there i started the ascent to the peak kaloros 1940m. There are 3 peaks the highest is the northest one so dont be "fooled" to climb the first one that looks highet because its closer to you. Again there is no path. A few meters before the summit you can see debris from a fighter jet.

From th summit you could see snow from 2 avalanches. The first one happend between kaloros and agavani summit and launched from kaloros north face which is equaly steep in comparison to melindau. The other one was located at mavri region.
To descent i follow the north-west ridge -no path-. At 1400m there is a ruined old shepered path and you can see a shepered house. At this point you can go faster but still th path because is ruined it is dangerous to go fast and its not easy to find the path. I have been there a lot of times so i know the right direction and that helps me to find the path.

At 1200m more or less there is pigadakia source but this source often gets dry during late summer. This year before this excursion i've been ther twice, 1 during spring and the other one durin june and there was enough water but this time there was almost not flow so you could see microorganism.

After pigadakia the path is good and after a few minutes there is another source tromarisa where there is always water. Its the first source after kallergi. Few meters from tromarisa and after a smal ascent slowly you see that you enter a forest (mostly cypress). Αt the end of the path you can find water. Zourva village. After a 20-30m at the asphalt there is a sign to meskla. (3.3km) mostly at a dirty road and few km at a path (sarakinas gorge).

At the end of the gorge after few meters there is asphalt that goes t meskla. I followed that road and after meskla i continued to fournes village where i stoped to buy liquides (water and cola).
It was the most diff part. Too hot there was no wind (at the mountain there was north cool wind) and on the asphalt road with my trail running shoes. Anyway i continues to kirtomatado village and from there after a small ascent to ano stalos. At this point i was glad to feel the wind again and to see that the sea was too close. Afyer 1-2 km i was swimminfg 😊😊. (Agia roumeli-omalos 17km omalos melindau 10.3km melindau zourva 10km zourva stalos 20.5)

I had with me from the beginning all the food i needed and i took liquids from sources i mentioned above.

Unfortunatly the gps lost the signal at samaria gorge and before kallergi shelter as you can see at the elevation diagramm there is an error.

Approximately it is a 57-58km trail with 2.600-2.700m of elevation gain.
