Itinerary description

This is the entire running of the longest uninterrupted beach on the South African coastline in one go, self-supported. This track starts at the West Coast town of Yzerfontein and ends at Tsaarsbank within the West Coast National Park in a northerly direction.

The 'official' starting point of the 16 Miles of uninterrupted beach is from Rooi Pan se Klip, way-pointed. It may be possible to walk the entire length of this beach in one day, however one would need to take note of the West Coast National Park gate closing time to ensure one is able to leave the park at the end of the day before the gate closes. Hence, one would need to start this track from Yzerfontein early depending on how fast one walks. Alternatively, one could traverse this beach from Tsaarsbank in a southerly direction to Yzerfontein.

Be sure to carry sufficient water, sunhat, sunscreen and food as it is a remote coastline and there is no shelter or water. Cell phone coverage is intermittent. Easy underfoot, one will be able to witness a wide variety of bird life!
