Itinerary description
Whitney Portal is the gateway to the top of Mt Whitney. Assuming that you are starting from Lone Pine, just a few miles to the west is a beautiful granite field where many of the old western movies were made. Take a moment to check out some of the side roads. Very interesting with plaques, etc..
The rest of the road is uneventful, but the road ends in a loop at about 8400 feet. Lots of foot trails everywhere and the weather is always very comfortable in the summer.
