Itinerary description
Destination Chitwan Park Madi Municipality
Road from Jhinu Dada is 1h quite an off-road.
Actually Jhinhu Dada is cut off from the rest of road system by road construction..
there is about 6-8 jeeps locked on the jinhu Dada side of the construction providing taxi service between Jinhu Dada and construction area.
If you are tracking ABC and exiting or entering this trail at Chhomrong you will have to walk the road construction part. Jeeps cam drop you on the one side of construction and another set of jeeps can pick you on the other side of construction. No car is able to pass through construction area.
Drivers told me that construction company opens the road once a week to let jeeps in or out. But that's about it.
For motorcycle it's no problem but bare in mind the section that is under construction is quite off road. The rest is not so bad.
I drove all the way to Jimhu Dada bridge and left my bike at the construction site storage zone.
If you decide to leave motorcycle at the Jinhu Dada side better drive it down the narrow path and park next to the guest house.
I wasn't brave enough to drive down the 30m long narrow path and I had to pay for my mistake.
In the morning day after I found my bike in same place and same position but mirror was twisted, indicator was cracked and plate was bent. All were covered in mud. It was apparent that someone has tried to sit on the bike and dropped it off the stand. They put the bike upright but damage was done.
I have no doubt it was construction workers. I actually have seen from the other side of the valley someone lifting something at the location of my bike. But from 1km it looked like could be materials.
So lesson learned is that better overcome your fears and drive the bike down to the proper parking near the guesthouse.
Ok. Moving on:
Second section of the road is along the ridge of the hill with spectacular views of Annapurna range and Pokhara. Easy and lovely. Do take this road over the wider and faster new road down what valley. Wide road is 10min faster but doesn't offer such amazing views.
Road beyond Pokhara in direction of Katmandu is pure horror. One continues construction site. Loads of trucks and busses but worst are the minivans, who are the fastest on the road regardless of their time mini wheels and zero off-road capabilities.
I took this road last week in rain and thought it was painful.
As a matter of fact muddy slippery version of this road is like a dream compared to the dry dusty version of it. I couldn't see more than 50m at times. Everything got covered with thick layer of dust. Once I diverted to Chitwan i stopped at the first spot with access to river and took a bath in the river to just cool my body and get back to my senses.
Road south to chitwan is very decent. tarmac all the way with only few short sections of dirt road whenever bridge construction, etc.
This road at some point transition into a small local road leading into chitwan.
Chitwan itself has one through road that is cobble stone but not too bad.
Unfortunately I picked a wrong spot on the map and ended up in Madi community which has quite little to do with the chitwan park.
All the safaris and rhinoceros are on the very far opposite end of the park accessible via massive detour up north.
Owner of local guesthouse Madi Village Resort arranged me local person to show me around but it wasn't an official guide and at the end we didn't see any wildlife.
We did see the river, local small mosque, traditional straw houses on piles, but that's about it.
If you want to see local rural life that Madi community is I think quite interesting to visit. Multiple religions coexisting in small area: Christians, Muslim, Hindu and Hari.
If you would like to see rhinoceros and do safari on elephant than this is not the right place. Go to Sauraha instead.
