Motorbike trip from Catalonia to Iran passing through Italy, Albania, Greece, Turkey and Iran.
17-10-2022 - It was cool this morning, luckily I wore a T-shirt and thermal socks to sleep yesterday. I continue towards Shiraz a little before arriving there is Maharloo Lake, also called Pink Lake because of the color of the water although it was now white because of the large amount of salt.
Arriving in Shiraz, I went straight to the Niayesh hotel, which I had heard that other travelers spoke very well of and, indeed, the $20 it costs to sleep+breakfast+parking and is very central is cheap if we compare it to many others. Nicely decorated, a funny courtyard, spacious and clean decorated rooms, wifi that works well enough, welcome tea, ...
After settling in and taking a shower I head towards a main street where there is a fortress, a mosque and a currency exchange. I negotiate the exchange of $200 for 63 million (315,000 rials per dollar).
I'm hungry and I go into a place where I eat a quarter of grilled chicken with tomato salad, green pepper, onion and some kind of cucumber, a plate of some kind of samfaina, thin bread and a coke for 900,000.
I want to enter the mausoleum of Shah-e Cheragh (brother of Imam Reza of Mashhad) but they don't let me take my camera and I keep walking around the bazaar and alleys, I go to Nasir al-Mulk Mosque (Pink Mosque) but it was closed. I buy a melon, tangerine, grape and water ice cream and head to the hotel.
At a quarter past 6 I go out again, it's getting dark and there's a lot more atmosphere in the street.
I try again to enter the Shah-e Cheragh mausoleum now that I only have my phone, wallet and hotel key and yes, no problem but I dare not take any pictures.
A watchman/guide of the place approaches me and we start talking, he also speaks Spanish, we spent a lot of time talking about everything (even the discomfort that exists in Iran with the government and that it will soon change, according to him in a couple of years) while accompanying me everywhere and explaining many things to me.
