Itinerary description
Snowshoeing - From Balme, reaching Rifugio Citta' di Cirie' at Pian della Mussa is a classic snowshoe hike. The road beyond Balme is always closed in winter.
It is a trodden way, so despite recent snowfall it was all compacted and there was no need to put the showshoes on but just the crampons as the path/road was quite icy.
Rifugio Citta' di Cirie' is always open even in winter - at least on weekends. We ate our own lunch pack outside in the sun but most patrons enjoy typical mountain food there. Reservation suggested, as all tables were taken. We ordered a cup of hot chocolate and drank it while standing at the bar. Nice and relaxed atmosphere.

Just flurries the way back, but acceptable overall weather for the day.
