Itinerary description
January 8 and Lebanon did not see major snow storms. The only snow is found above 2500 m ASL.
This snowshoeing expedition is the first this year. The trail started from the ski lift station and went up following the ski slope. The firs 1+ km was a dirt road and snow.
the trail was in the highlands with rock formations that were partially covered by snow. The snow was around 50 cm think which was perfect for snowshoeing (no sinkholes). The trail took us to visit 3 crosses of the seven crosses trail and then passed by the Mzaar ski station where we had lunch and then went downhill and back to the cars.
The sky was interspersed with clouds and sunshine but the weather was biting cold; it was the first time that I keep my four layers on all the trail.
WARNING! Part of this trail goes through an old minefield from the Lebanese civil war (circa 1975). The field was cleared by the army; however, there are still signs warning of landmines. We only do this trail when it snows; as per army experts, a 50 cm thickness of snow will prevent personnel landmines from going off. Take this trail at your own risk.

Trail of Seven Crosses I
The trail lies on the trail of 7 crosses where there are 7 hills with each having a cross representing a Saint. We did three hills. The first cross is for St. Maroun.
