Itinerary description
Date : 2024.01.21
Duration on paper : 06h22
Duration real with breaks : 06h00
Difficulty for me : T3
Physical : average
Technical : average
Fear : low
Average Slope : +17.6% -19.2%
Attendance ascent/summit/descent : null/null/null
Comment : started quite easy T2 no to light snow 0-5cm until Brévalle after that you're not on official trails anymore snow became 10 then 20 then 30+ cm deep with no traces we saw zero people in that hike and for a reason...it's mostly slope traversal and reaching Montadzou demanded some thinking as there was 1m50 high of snowdrift between our height and the flat above, I had to dig a path remove the powder snow until our snowshoes could grip the ice beneath or we would slip down a 88% slope, not for beginners.
Luckily for us around Montadzu there were some cross-country ski traces we could follow and move faster than opening a fresh powder trail. Beautiful 360 view from Les Rodomonts and easy descent till La Chia after that the descent is very steep in winter conditions mud ice if you have the time I suggest continuing along the ridge after La Chia until La Forcla.
As you can see in the last picture we ran out of time and ended the hike at night.
