Ballad on the Saguenay Fjord (Croisières Dufour)
The only emissary of Lake Saint Jean, the Saguenay is 155 km long, its average depth is 240m and it can reach in some places 1500m wide. Towards Saint Fulgence, the river enters the Saguenay fjord then flows into the Saint Lawrence at Tadoussac.
A deep and majestic gorge, the Saguenay Fjord is a valley overcrown during the last glaciation and then invaded by the sea. The tide is felt as far as Chicoutimi. The Saguenay Fjord, the most beautiful in North America, offers beautiful landscapes embellished with capes and steep cliffs.
The Saguenay Fjord brings the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of St. Lawrence to the heart of the legendary Saguenay Kingdom. It drains the waters of a 88,000 km2 watershed that stretches 550 kilometers apart.
This inland channel originates in central Quebec and from its boreal forest to eastern Canada. It is unique in the world by its geographical location, its fantastic history and the distribution of its population that occupies the banks along its length.
Over time, the Saguenay Fjord was first and foremost the "road that works" for Aboriginal peoples. Then he became the gateway to a mysterious imaginary realm. Then, it became Domaine du Roy and fur road. In 1837, the first settlers to open this almost virgin territory, stormed it. Subsequently, the Saguenay became known as a dream tourist destination with the epic of cruises aboard "white boats".
