This was a fabulous day of sailing, the Meltemi was blowing perfectly on our beam from the north, and we left KArdemena reasonably early, just as the sun rise was appearing on the horizon.

Tony and I had actually brought the yacht "Nefeli", a Bavaria 40 Cruiser, around to the bay of Kardemena the afternoon before - we left Kos harbour around 3.30pm on Saturday 26th October 2013, and sailed south side of Kos, to arrive in Kardemena in the last of the twilight - it was pitch black as we finished tying up Port sinde to the quay, and we waited an hour or two for the other to arrive from the airport.

    Great start to the Odyssey!

Sailing into Astipalaia was an incredible day, we had steady wind of about 21 knots, with a lot of sustained gusts around 26 knots, sometime slightly more. It was strong and relentless breeze, and perfect sun, blue skies.

The first half of the day was warm, sunny and comfortable sailing - we felt particularly lucky as it was late late October, and also we were hearing reports of massive wet storms and wind back in Britain. How fortunate were was our little crew!

As the wind picked up steadily, we reefed the main after lunch and the genoa both in quite a way, and were still powering along at easily 7 or 7.5 knots in the perfect direction of travel to make our destination.
