J39 ~ Tuesday 26/01 - Long Island - Strachan Cay - 47.6 nautical
Clear sky, then a bit overcast but the sun came back quickly, temperature 26 °, wind E 16/20 knots gusting to 22 knots, rough sea with swell NE crossed with swell E generating dcreux from 2.50 to 10 foot..
We had planned to join Rum Cay which depends on Concepción Island, another spot of snorkeling but tomorrow Wednesday the sustained wind of E will turn SE and join Clarence Town at 45 nautical in a strong sea the wind in the nose is not a sinecure . We decided a very early start at 5 am to win Clarence Town and its lagoon. Departure on the open with a small wind from the North-East but very quickly the wind turned to the East and we went upwind tight in a rough sea with swell causing some beautiful hollow of 2.50 meters. To optimize this difficult navigation, Pierre took the helm for two hours, then it was Catherine who stuck for hour then I replaced it. Yes, it is difficult to manage well under these conditions despite years of experience. Later, we shot down 5 degrees and the autopilot did well. Finally we managed well and it was on one side that we entered the lagoon where is nestled the small town of Clemence Town in the south of Long Island.
We anchored at the opposite end to the city near three other sailboats. It's very beautiful ...
