J38 ~ Monday 25/01 Concepción Island - 28,4 nautical
Alternating sky sun and clouds, temperature 24 °, wind O 2/4 kt then NE 10/15 kt, flat sea under the west coast of Long Island, good chop at Cape Santa Maria fading, sea beautiful at the approach of Concepcion.
Very calm night with hardly a breeze of 2 knots, we leave our anchorage early to reach Concepción Island. Twenty nautical miles east of Long Island, it is an island 5 kilometers long, uninhabited, surrounded by a coral reef. Concepción Island National Park is managed by the National Bahamas Trust. The island is an important nesting site for endangered green turtles as well as for the particularly wild migratory birds that gave their name to Booby Cay in the east of the island.
Superb approach in an incredibly transparent water of a wonderful emerald green. An idyllic anchorage! And if two sailboats were already wet there, we could believe ourselves alone in the world! The swell enters the bay, crosses it and ends in rolls that burst on the beach.
Long swim and snorkeling session.
