J37 ~ Sunday 24/01 Long Island - Stella Maris - 33,1 nautical
Clear skies with sunshine, overcast at 13h in front of Long Island, temperature 20 °, wind W 15/18 knots with sails of 20 knots, then wind at N 10/12 knots, rough seas with 2 troughs , 50 to 3 meters becoming flat at the approach of Stella Ma-ris.
The wind blew until 6 am (with a break of 2 to 4 hours), we got up at 7 am. The meeting to raise the anchorage was delicate, the anchor of the main anchor being wrapped around the secondary anchor but at 8 o'clock we were en route first to the engine to leave the lagoon in front of George Town in a strong chop, then under GV with two reefs and genoa with 8 turns. Two sailboats preceded us for the crossing to Long Island.
The swell became stronger as we approached Long Island, a small break came crashing against the hull of the boat and I was showered copiously by a pack of sea, the only one of the cruise, the camera received although protected.
Our initial goal was Galliot Cay in the north of the island but a strong swell was entering Cala-Basha Bay making anchorage impossible. South of the small island of Hog Cay, it's not much better so we went south to get wet in front of Stella Maris while the sea became flat. The bay is shallow too, after having progressed slowly we anchor less than a mile from the coast in 1.60 meters of water. And it's not hot ...
