Itinerary description
Over the mountain - out through the valley.
This route can be run, hiked or mountain biked, whatever you fancy.
Make your choice: An easy start up through the river valley or a rough start up the steep slopes of the old Platanias city.
Either way, you'll find yourself in a most scenic landscape shifting from the barren mountain grounds with the wide ocean view to docile olive groves and orange plantations.
The road in the valley is asphalt, on the mountain it is soil (with concrete on the steepest slopes).
There are a few animal fences to be opened and closed on the top of the mountain.

I run this same route today. There were some 25 degrees celsius ja no clouds. I did not have any drinking with me but regardless of that it was not that bad to run almost throughout the route. Nice view. There were two gates I had to go over (probably because of sheeps?).
fantastic trail & view! https://da.wikiloc.com/lob-jogging-spor/platanias-chania-crete-1256218/photo-403221
Did a slight variation of this (from a different hotel). Not recommended in summer at noon... Repeated it at 6:30 am and it was quite lovely. The trail is not hard but it can be a bit tricky to choose the right one at intersections

My first hike last year using Wiciloc. This hike was amazing! I started from Agia Marina and with the steep part in the beginning. Seeing Crete from a hilltop made me fall in love with hiking in Greece for a lifetime :)
Nice hard and hilly run. Perfect for mornings or evenings.
Nic easy trail
