Itinerary description
A 3.5 hour trip north of Johannesburg via Modimolle and Vaalwater and you get to Lephalale. Eskom is building its newest power station, Medupi, outside of town.
Look at for the game in the various reserves on the road between Vaalwater and Lephalale.
The route was an out and back on the road to Vaalwater. The 10km, 21km and 32km turned back at various points on the route. The first 5km, along the edge of town are flat. Once you get onto the Vaalwater road it is slow poison for about 6km. After that you can see that the road rises. After 16km you get the first serious hill of about 500m. You then drop down and then its another small climb to the turning point. You follow the same route back to the finish.
Water stations are every 2.5km and they have everything you need. Not many people at the race so a lot of running is done alone, unless you run with a friend.
There is very little traffic on the Vaalwater road and the traffic police patrol the whole route making sure that the runners are safe.
