Itinerary description
Its a slow steady climb for the first 22km with one big climb as you approach the airfield. Its not something to panic about though. As you get closer to the highest point the wind seems to pick up. This year it wasn't too bad. From the Post Office tower it is aall downhill to the finish (wishful thinking). There are four hills in the second half. The first two are minor compared to the last two. Buggers hill is just a head down and run to the top. Don't focus on the top. Once you are on the top it is flat for about one km then its down the otherside. Its quite steep in places so you need to protect your legs. They are widening the pass and working on the road so by next year the gradient may be different.
At the bottom there is about 10km left. Most of it is fairly flat. As you pass the golf course you will see the dam in front of you, but the road will curve to the right. Don't look up. Get across the river and then jog and walk poles or stripes until you get to the top of the hill. At the top of the hill they normally have a clock showing the race time. You have about 2km of downhill to the finish. As you turn off the road into the resort you have 600m left. Each 100m is marked off to the finish line. There are lots of little twists and turns in the resort. Watch where you put your feet.
