Itinerary description
3h19 moving time so moving time speed of 15.3kmh
(difference to total time was big lunch in Landquart Outlet's Subway and plenty of occasions where one needs to check which side of the river to be in, as well as photos).
The start in Domat/Ems is maybe not the most efficient as one has a 1 km walk to the start by the River Rhein.
The first section is very pleasurable gravel until you get to Chur.
The river path had a section closed because of military excercises, that entailed having to turn back 1 km and go into the streets.
The path from Chur down again quite pleasurable but narrowish and you will find a few dog walkers so good to slow down.
Getting into Landquart the walkers path had muddy sections (ok for walkers but not ideal for cross skates) so I followed the Bicycle path signs.
From Landquart down to Bad Ragaz it was doable gravel, shade, river to the right side.
There came the big surprise of the day. From Bad Ragaz after crossing the river to to on the left side you stumble onto an asphalted massive river bank, which is sort of perfect ground for roller skiers.
I stopped around 50 kilometres as it was getting late.
Overall a very doable flat (slight descent) path.
To do this path from Domat 20 cm wheels will get you comfort. 15 cm wheels is mostly doable too with less comfort. If you only have rollerskis then I recommend just going to the aslphalted river bank section after Bad Ragaz. Take public transport to the Bad Ragaz, sportplatz bus station and you will be able to see the river bank and put on your rollerskis there.
