The return trip to maguan from laoshan follows the 盘龙江 river back. Once arrive in the general area of laoshan, there are lots of small roads leading into a 'back door' of the mountain. I can be reached in a day which means it'll be possibly to camp there. Maybe spend a day or two hiking the area along the border and then cycle back.
