Start the day with the all-terrain vehicle trip from Moshi or Arusha to the town of Machame (50 minutes from Moshi, 90 minutes from Arusha). From this small village to Machame Gate it is not always possible to drive by car, due to the accumulation of mud on the road, so it is sometimes necessary to walk the three kilometers that separate these two points. Be that as it may, arriving at the Machame Gate will register the entrance to the Kilimanjaro National Park of all the members of the expedition.
Once verified that we have all the necessary material for the day, if we have not already done so in the Machame village, we will start the route through well-marked paths between land destined for agriculture, until we enter the zone of the forest belt.
The tropical forest that we must cross is the most humid area that we will find in the ascent to Kilimanjaro with fogs and rains many days of the year. The road is well marked but we will often find it humid and muddy, so we must foresee the right material for this circumstance (boots, boot covers and canes).
In the afternoon, after a stop to eat in the forest, you will reach the most open area of Machame Camp, a camping area where there is a small building for the park staff.
The accommodation in Machame Camp is carried out in the tents that the porters transport and install every day, being the custom to build tents to sleep and a dining tent. We will also find in this camp, as in the rest, very elementary latrines. The water necessary both for drinking and for grooming is provided by the porters, who are responsible for collecting it from the streams of the area and boiling it to make it drinkable.
In Machame Camp it is possible that night temperatures fall to zero degrees.
