Kumano Kodo is a pre-ritual path that unites three important temples in the Japanese region of Wakayama. Hongu Taisha is one of these three temples.
Initially we had planned to make the route in reverse, so as to end Hosshimnon Oji where we had started our brief 2-day incursion into the Kumano Kodo. Now, Hosshimnon Oji is a lost place (barely a small oratory by road) where for the bus to connect with Kumano Kodo, so we chose to go by bus to Hosshimnon Oji to return from there to Hongu Taisha.
