Former KGB Radio Intelligence Center

From the 19th century until the First World War, on the bank of the Šventupė, at the confluence with the Jiesia stream, stood a manor named after the German owner Lustberg ("Lustberg"). In the summer of 1944, Russian soldiers based in Linksmakalnis installed a foreign intelligence unit of the KGB radio equipment and a radio intelligence center in the former manor. All the inhabitants were evicted from the area, the area was surrounded by barbed wire, and German prisoners were opened. In 1944–1950, they built the current office building of the eldership, the barracks, the house of Žalosios Street, the building of the officers' club, the design of which (windows with arches) was taken from the only red brick building of the manor after the war - K. Gustaitis breeding horse stables. Prisoners of war were buried nearby, and their graves were found in 2000. The military unit located in Linksmakalnis was especially secretive. It employed several thousand Russian soldiers and translators. From here, it was possible to listen to radio messages broadcasting throughout Europe. The servants who worked at the base with their families were not allowed to live anywhere else. In the former USSR, similar centers operated in Latvia (Skrunda), Ukraine (Odessa Oblast), Tashkent, Pskov and Moscow. Abroad, such centers have been set up in Vietnam and Cuba. Lustberg was officially renamed Linksmakalnis on May 15, 1958, when it became an urban settlement, but on September 30, 1970, it lost these rights and became a village.

Lyduvėnai bridge

Lyduvėnai Bridge, built in 1952. - the highest and longest bridge in all of Lithuania. The bridge is the main highlight of the town. 1916 the Germans built one of the largest wooden bridges in the world at the time. Due to its height and size, it was not strong, it was not very suitable for railway needs, so in 1918. a monolithic iron bridge was built, named after Field Marshal Paul von Hindenburg. The height of the bridge is 42 meters, the length was about 570 meters. A monument was built next to it, which lasted until 1932. With the withdrawal of the Germans in 1944. the bridge was blown up, a temporary wooden one was built in 29 days, and in 1952 - current bridge. The current bridge is 599 meters long, 4.5 meters wide and 42 meters high. The largest Lyduvėnai railway bridge in Lithuania by the resolution of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania in 2008 February 13 No. 155 declared a Cultural Monument. The history of the construction and existence of the bridge is directly related to the life, work and celebrations of the people of Lyduvėni. There was no need for clocks either - the residents decided on the time according to the passing trains. Older residents still remember how about 1937. a junior lieutenant Vladas Murmulaitis flew through the bottom of the bridge on the Anbo 41 plane. 1992 May 7 after the closure of Lyduvėnai railway station, life at the foot of the bridge slowed down and became quieter. Access to the bridge is possible only with the permission of "Lithuanian Railways".

Monument to Litas (former currency of LT) and Euro

For a long time it was not clear who built this “monument”. During the Soviet era, a stone was erected at the turn to Nemajūnai, on which the name of the Nemajūnai collective farm was engraved. After the restoration of Independence, only a stone remained. With the introduction of the euro, a perpetuated "outgoing" currency, the litas, emerged overnight. In the same way, a euro sculpture appeared later in the night. Only after a while it became clear that the monument to the litas and the euro was erected by Kęstutis Prakapas from Jieznai.

Mūša Tyru Cognitive Trail / Mūšos tyrelio pažintinis takas

Lenght: ~ 9km The Mūša Tyru Cognitive Trail was opened in 2015. March. and is the longest board trail in the swamp, included in the Lithuanian record book. The length of the boardwalk is 3605.87 m, the total length of the trail to one side is 4480 m, and you have to cover more than 8 km to walk the whole trail. 2019 In the spring, the installation works of the second stage of the educational trail were completed, during which the boardwalk was extended by another 2 km. Thus, from now on, the cognitive trail of Mūša Tyrel is even more attractive - a ring winds around the reserve. The Mūša Tyrel Cognitive Trail is located in an exceptional valuable natural area - Mūša Tyrel Telmological Reserve, which is included in the Žagarė Regional Park as an "island" - without a direct connection with the rest of the park territory. This exceptional natural complex of Northern Lithuania consists of high marshes, intermediate type marshes, low marshes, peat bogs and wet forests. The rivers Mūša and Juodupis start in the southern part of the swamp, the natural Miknaičiai lake and many small lakes are concentrated in the eastern part. The reserve is included in the list of NATURA 2000 network areas. The directorate of Žagarė Regional Park invites you to get acquainted with a unique untouched corner of nature while traveling on the Cognitive Trail of Mūša River. The Mūša Tyru Cognitive Trail can be visited independently without the escort of the staff of the Directorate. But please be serious, not make noise. You will not find any rubbish bins when traveling along the trail (except for the rest area at the beginning of the trail). This is not just for yourself. Be responsible and understanding - what we brought with us, take away. Let's respect and protect nature! A fire in the Mūša mire swamp would destroy this exceptional natural complex irreversibly, firefighters would not enter the swamp area, and it would be especially difficult to put out the burning peat. Therefore, in 2015. Mūša Tyru Cognitive Trail has been declared a non-smoking area by the decision of Joniškis District Municipal Council.

Punia Mound

Punia mound is one of the most famous and largest in Lithuania, will have a unique and complex history. The mound has long been famous for its lively legend, that here, in the besieged Pilėnai, all the defenders of the castle, together with Duke Margiris, bravely defended and tragically died in the unequal struggle with the Crusaders. After the demolition of the first castle, on the top of the 15th-18th century mound stood an ornate palace - the residence of Punia rulers. The former luxury is evidenced by the abundant finds and the thick cultural layer of the three periods. In the interwar period until 1938, several farmsteads stood on the mound, and the site was plowed. After admiring the magnificent panorama of the Nemunas Valley and the famous Punia Silo, which opens from the top of the mound, you need to cross the site along the old stone stairs and descend to Punelė. The water symphony is played by the Nečiuikai source - a waterfall - near the creek.
