Itinerary description
The route begins in Choliani village of Tsalka municipality. After fast ascend on Trialeti range, the view on the other (northern) side of the range can be seen. This heavilt forested side differs from the south one which has a steppe and treeless landscape.
Here, on the range, on the border point of three provinces of Georgia, there are ruins of the medieval fortress Kldekari, from where the thrilling views are spread on Trialeti (Tsalka municipality), Kvemo Kartli (in particular - Algeti National Park) and Shida Kartli.
From Kldekari fortress we descend to the valley of Sabolia river. Here, in the valley we find a little old church, strange for its location and huge megaliths in its walls.
The route lies in Sabolia valley in the forest. We overnight one night in the valley.
The next day we go down the stream to the confluence of Tedzami River. Then we follow Tedzami River and shortly we’ll see the old arch bridge of Rkoni. There is Ikvi monastery soon after the bridge, from where we’ll reach Rkoni village, the last point of the tour.
