Meerdaal
Meerdaal - also known as Meerdaalwoud and Meerdaalbos - is a woodland lying east of Brussels and south of Leuven, on the loess plateau of Brabant in central Belgium. The bigger part of it has most likely been continuously forested since the Middle Ages, but the archaeological record and geomorphology give evidence of a profound human influence, probably including agriculture, during the Roman era and the Iron Age.

Contrary to what you might think this ”table” is a remnant of an old bridge. This bridge was built to cross the gap of the valley along the N25 ( Naamsesteenweg ) so that the tram route Leuven - Geldenaken could be completed.

In the 1600’s a simple form of government was held by the people who dwelt nearby called “waldrecht” or the German word for Forest-reign. Forest reserve ' Heather '
There are two types of forest reserves: integral forest reserves and directed forest reserves. In integrated forest reserves man does not intervene, trees lie where the fall as an example. Such pristine forest reserves are ecologically very valuable. In a directed forest reserve an agency nurtures different aspects as decided by their organizational desires. You will walk through a directed forest reserve. Most forests are managed according to the high forest system in where trees grow up to be an ascending forest. If you could see it from the air you have just a blanket of leaves. There is therefore little low lying vegetation because the trees simply do not let enough light pass through. In this way the timber oriented forest reserve system is restored, a system that is very popular here. This system allows the for the use of scheduled tree-cutting for the use of timber.

Warandevivjver
The Warandevijver was recently transformed from a pond with a purely recreational function to an ecological pond where fauna and flora have every opportunity . This pond is a haven for amphibians. On old maps of this location you could find a forester's house which was important for hunting. Some finds of artifacts in this area point to human activity during the Neolithic and the Gallo- Roman period
