Itinerary description
Among snowcapped volcanoes, ghost towns and a fauna that likes to show off, drive through this pristine, scenic, really beautiful route that crosses the Volcán Isluga National Park, the Salar de Surire Natural Monument, the Las Vicuñas National Reserve and the Lauca National Park. In addition, there is the possibility to bathe in natural hot springs. Also, admire the church of Isluga. You can eat and sleep in Colchane and Putre.
4x4 high-clearance vehicles are recommended as it is necessary to cross a river. Following this itinerary, you must carry extra fuel since you will drive 550 km between the last gas station in Pozo Almonte (Copec) and the first one in Arica (Shell). These gas stations are shown on the map.
I recommend getting in touch with the Chilean police (http://www.carabineros.cl/) and with the national parks administration (http://www.conaf.cl/) to know about the road conditions. Certainly everything will be more difficult in the rainy season, from December to February.
For further information, I suggest the Chile & Easter Island Lonely Planet guide book or/and the Chiletur Zona Norte Copec guide book (in Spanish).

Hola.Se consigue combustible en colchane y en Putre?
Entonces, eso fue en 2018, si nada cambió desde entonces, no hay gasolinera en esos pueblos. Incluso el puente que se había caído ahora puede estar operativo. Es mejor llamar a la gente de estos pueblos para obtener una respuesta real.
