The next day we had two objectives before arriving in Damaraland: the sea lion reserve of "Cape Cross" and the crossing of Messum Crater, neither of us was disappointed. We left early, this time beating Miki the bet that we left before 7 in the morning (the final words of all the "briefings" of the previous day was "MORNING: MADRUGAR MAS" heading to the "SAL" road of the Skeletons coast, it was as if we circulated by asphalt but with the characteristic fog of the area that did not let us pass 70 per hour, there was very little traffic, so much so that we could even take pictures lying on the road "biting the salty road dust ".
On the way to the "Skeleton coast" could be seen, few, but some boats stranded (which make the place famous) as well as some curious stalls in which, by will, you could take a "piece of stone" salt , by the way, very beautiful because of the marked crystallization characteristic, we all stung and all of us were reduced a few days later to a shapeless mass that oozed water with salt ... so we arrived at the reserve of seals of "cape cross" in which more than 200,000 specimens are concentrated during the breeding season. We were impressed to see them surfing on the beach to fish and the size of the colony, in addition to observing some opportunistic jackals that were constantly lurking to take in the mouth of a young, not if the fierce opposition of his mother lashed out quickly against them to save their offspring.
We were almost an hour and a half ecstatic for this natural spectacle that, in the end, was one of the stars of the trip. However, we had a long journey of the Messum Crater (the third attraction organized by tourism companies from Swapkomund, with the permission of Sandwich Bay and Cape Cross). We started a few kilometers from the main road with a very fast track and an infinite horizon where Lito at the wheel enjoyed like a dwarf, it seemed that we were on another planet. Curiously we crossed the road with a couple of Spanish, Ainoa and Angel, who were in another pickup and without GPS !!!. Luckily they were lucky enough to coincide with us since once past the crater there were many roads and not all in the direction of Khorixas, our next destination in Damaraland.
