The map must be very old because now there are trails starting at Punta Borinquén Beach all the way to Punta Blanca. There are also well marked trails off the dirt road into the forest/jungle (pass the ruins and take the first marked trail to the left.) once you are out of the jungle the trail is very hot, but it runs parallel to the ocean and there are many spots just a few yards of the trail where you can take a cooling dip in the ocean, and you can walk along the beach instead of the trail to enjoy the shade of the palms along the beach. You won’t get lost. You can hear the ocean all along the trail, and most of the trail you can see it. So if you did somehow become disoriented, you can easily find your way back to the trail. I highly recommend. It is about 5 miles (11,000 Fitbit steps) from the ruins to Punta Blanca and back, longer if you park at Punta Borinquén Beach and take the trail from there. If you park nearer to the ruins, the best place to park is at what Google maps refers to as “Las Ruinas Airsoft Fields”, overlooking the ruins. Walk down the steps and past the ruins to get to the well marked trail. You will emerge near “the wilderness”, go left to continue on to Punta Blanca. Great trail for dogs, but plan to stop often for a dip to cool them off. It takes 1.5 -2 hours back and forth.
