Itinerary description

Reykjahlíð - Askja Crater F905 drive.

Note the emergency numbers - 112, 1777 and 1779. Ensure that your phones are fully charged.

The drive begins from Road 1, on a turn, 10 kms from Orkan. There is a petrol station at the beginning of F905 and ensure that the tank is full. This is an extremely remote part of Iceland with an occasional driver passing you by. Hence, it is recommended to travel with at least one another car. There are river crossings and it is not advisable to use this road, if your insurance does not cover river crossing, specifically.

F905 further connects into F910. We turned back after 50 kms, as we were the only SUV driving along and any flat out or issue, would mean a night spent in the highland wilderness, until help arrives.
